Course Objectives

This class provides doctoral students a basic training to do qualitative researches. Research methods are something should be learned by doing. It is a craft that can be pursued mainly by try-and-error. Nevertheless, a comprehension on the logic behind the choices of research design strategies, data collecting tools, and field work dynamics would help the researchers in getting the tacit knowledge to do things right. This course starts with strategic thinking about research design—from picking up a potential topic to matching it with proper research methods, and further to wrapping up the research result for publication.
